Meet Attorney Sarah Catherman

For Sarah Catherman, practicing law in Waterville isn’t just a job—it’s a homecoming. Born and raised in Central Maine, Sarah’s story began right here in our community, where she attended Temple Academy and Winslow Public Schools.

Life took her family to Williamsburg, Virginia, for her later high school years, but Maine always remained home. It was in Virginia where Sarah’s path truly began to take shape. She earned her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and, most importantly, met her husband and future business partner, Andrew. With a shared ambition, they pursued their legal education together at Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law.

After law school, the newly-minted lawyers returned to Virginia, passing the bar in 2014 and dedicating the next seven years to building their careers. Sarah quickly distinguished herself, earning an appointment as a Magistrate. This judicial role gave her a rare, behind-the-bench perspective on the justice system as she conducted hearings and made critical rulings on probable cause, bail, search warrants, and other criminal and civil proceedings.

Stepping down from the judicial branch, Sarah joined a private firm where she became known as a well-regarded criminal defense attorney. Her poise in the courtroom and unwavering dedication earned the respect of judges and fellow lawyers alike. At the same time, she guided other clients through some of life’s most significant decisions, providing meticulous counsel in estate planning, real estate, and matters of guardianship and conservatorship.

With years of rich experience, Sarah and Andrew felt the pull to return to their roots. They chose to bring their skills home to Central Maine, where Sarah could serve the community that shaped her. Today, as Co-Owner of Dominion Law, she puts her diverse background to work. She provides thoughtful guidance to clients planning their estates, starting a small business, or assisting with real estate transactions, while also serving as a dedicated advocate for those needing a strong criminal defense.

Sarah’s dedication to Waterville is evident in both her professional and personal life. A familiar face in local legal and community circles, she is a member of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Waterville Bar Association, and Centerpoint Community Church. Her tireless advocacy for the underserved led to her being honored with the Maine Justice Foundation’s Access to Justice Tax Credit in 2024 and the Maine Supreme Judicial Court’s Katahdin Counsel recognition in 2025.

Outside the courtroom, Sarah is an avid traveler and a lifelong reader. Above all, she cherishes her time at home, where she stays busy keeping up with the boundless energy of her two young children.
